The Department of Public Health is a key academic unit within Mizan Aman Health Sciences College, dedicated to training competent healthcare professionals who can address the pressing public health challenges in the region. The department is supported by a team of 36 highly qualified faculty members, comprising 21 instructors with a second degree (master’s level), 10 with a first degree (bachelor’s level), and 5 serving as technical assistants. This diverse faculty ensures a well-rounded and high-quality educational experience for students.
Currently, the department serves a total of 371 students enrolled in two major programs:

Post Basic Degree in Family Health, with 45 students focusing on advanced family health practices and interventions.

Diploma in Generic and Upgrade Health Extension Level 4, with 326 students from various zones and districts. This program equips students with essential skills to strengthen primary healthcare services in their communities.
The diverse backgrounds of the students reflect the department’s commitment to expanding healthcare access and improving public health outcomes across different regions. By training future health professionals from various districts, the department plays a vital role in addressing healthcare disparities and strengthening community-based healthcare services.
Beyond teaching, the faculty members are actively engaged in research and community outreach initiatives, working on projects that address local and national public health concerns. These efforts not only enhance the quality of education but also contribute to practical solutions for real-world health challenges.
